What is happening?

 

How can intelligent, educated people fervently believe demonstrable falsehoods simply because a leader—a known liar, cheat, and failed opportunist—declares them? We all recognize the type: the charismatic demagogue who sells dreams but delivers only betrayal.

Common sense ceases to function when it’s not applied. Yet so many suspend critical thinking to embrace blatant nonsense. Why?

The Cult of the Chronic Liar

Blind faith in pathological dishonesty isn’t just irrational—it’s tribal.

People don’t follow such leaders despite the lies but because of them. The lies are loyalty tests.

To question the leader is to betray the tribe. This is how cults operate—whether political or religious.

The High Cost of Independent Thought

I’ve paid for my skepticism:

Spiritual groups (like Osho’s) were accused of “brainwashing,” yet they encouraged more critical thinking than mainstream society. The irony? It’s the masses who are truly brainwashed.

Politics everywhere is a rigged duopoly:

Germany’s CDU/SPD, America’s Democrats/Republicans, Britain’s Labour/Tories—all serve the same masters: wealth and war.

Every new U.S. president starts 2 wars on average; every system funnels money upward while pretending to debate “left vs. right.”

Why Don’t "Smart" People See This?

Cowardice

Most fear isolation more than deception. It’s safer to chant slogans than to stand alone.

Comfort in Illusion

Believing “your side” is virtuous—despite identical outcomes—is easier than admitting the game is fixed.

Manufactured Division

The elite want us fighting over pronouns or tax cuts while they loot the treasury.

Democracy? Or Theater of Compliance?

We call this system “democracy,” but it’s really a rotation of masks on the same face. The majority choose their own oppressors because:

Critical thinking is punished (bullying, ostracism).

Conformity is rewarded (social approval, false belonging).

The curse of awareness is loneliness. But the alternative—complicity in collective delusion—is far worse.
