These Quiet Habits make you great
– Inspired by C.S. Lewis
Life is not mainly shaped by what happens to us – but by how we respond.
The strongest person doesn't react immediately.
They pause.
That small moment – the space between stimulus and response – makes all the difference.
The Genius Difference
What separates a genius from an ordinary person?
Albert Einstein said it simply:
"We let ourselves have time to solve the problem. We wait until the answer comes – without actively thinking about it."
That's not laziness. That's wisdom.
Why Reacting Is Dangerous
We get unexpected challenges every day.
And the most stupid thing a human being can do?
React immediately.
Everything gets worse when you act from impulse.
Instead:
Step out of the situation.
Calm down.
Then discover the solution.
Otherwise, you have no control – over yourself, your reactions, your emotions, your thoughts.
You're just steering a ship through a storm without a rudder or compass.
A Mental Reframe for Bad Situations
When I'm in a bad situation, my immediate reaction is to tell myself:
"It doesn't matter anyway. It's not important whether I get this or not."
That small shift changes everything.
When You Get Offended
When we're offended, we don't react emotionally.
We feel our emotions – but we don't act from them.
Don't suppress your emotions – watch them.
Feel them, but don't become them. (Zen wisdom)
Feeling your anger doesn't make you weak.
Acting on it does.
Feeling hurt doesn't make you weak.
Reacting from it does.
Don't let your feelings dictate your behavior.
Two Tricks When You're Abused
1. Let the dogs bark.
"They can't do differently."
2. "I am also that."
We are everything.
The person attacking you is emphasizing one bad habit – but we all have flaws.
This brings humility and perspective.
The Reward: Self-Respect
By controlling yourself – instead of acting impulsively – you gain:
Respect for yourself
Trust in yourself
Awareness – so you respond much better
You become calmer.
You learn to appreciate solitude.
If You Can't Be Alone...
If you can't appreciate solitude, you're afraid of yourself.
Afraid of your thoughts.
"What if I had done it better?"
"What if I hadn't reacted that way?"
The suppressed thoughts and emotions you run from will surface anyway.
What Solitude Reveals
In stillness, you discover:
What you really want – and what you don't
The thought patterns that disturb you
More awareness and clarity
Then you can act better – and live better.
Your thinking becomes quieter.
Your intuition grows stronger.
The Path to God
And only when you have calmness in your mind –
can you connect to God.
You cannot speak to God when your mind is full of noise.
This is true for every religion.
That is why meditation is one of the greatest things you can do.
Silence reveals what we truly think.
